Join poets ‘step through mirrors’

AS part of the 17th Sydney Writers Festival, Auburn Poets & Writers (pictured) will explore personal change through sketches, poems, video, music and movement in ‘Stepping Through Mirrors’ at the end of May.

APW coordinator Danny Gardner says this has never been more crucial.
“We, as a compassionate society, face such financial and logistical challenges in taking proper care of our senior citizens and those psychologically challenged,” he said.
At rehearsals, APW cast members were asked for a phrase that best described their mission of putting ‘Stepping Through Mirrors’ together.
Mark Marusic said: “Demonstrating what it means to ride the roller-coaster of life.”
Seher Aydinlik said: “When you look in the mirror you want to see the heart of a person.”
Yasemin Dolcel said: “We are all aboard the train – as life’s candle burns away.”
Tatiana Bonch said: “Again and again we have to face ourselves – find out who we are.”
Michaela Simoni’s answer was mischievously cryptic: “Our stories are written on glass – easily smudged or fogged up – but think goats, ghosts and bingo! Come to the show and find out what they have in common.”
‘Stepping Through Mirrors’ is at WestWords, 41 Hunter St, Parramatta, on Tuesday, May 23, at 7.30pm.
Entry: $10 (includes supper and prizes to win).
