Join forces to march for God

MARCHING for God, Catholics across the community proudly displayed their faith last week, taking part in the Corpus Christi Procession (pictured).

Fr Joseph Gedeon of St Jeromes Catholic Church, Punchbowl, Fr Maroun Youssef from St Charbel’s Maronite Church, Punchbowl and Fr Ibrahim Sultan from St John The Beloved Melkite Church, Greenacre, have for the first time joined forces to lead parishioners through a candlelit procession followed by a Benediction and Mass.
Starting at 6.30pm at St Jerome’s, the faithful followed the Blessed Sacrament through the streets as they prayed and sung hymns accompanied by St John’s Melkite Pipes and Drums.

The procession concluded with the Benediction at St Charbel’s, where the Mass was held celebrating the Eucharist.
The rite has been celebrated by Roman Catholics since 1264, when Pope Urban IV universalised the practice, commemorating the last supper when Jesus had created the first Eucharist for his disciples.
