Join fest of over 700 at Opera House

ELEVEN students from Old Guildford Public School will be among 500 recordists and 200 string players performing ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘March Militaire’ as part of the NSW Festival of Instrumental Music’s Banksia Concert at the Sydney Opera House on June 14.

Teacher Christine Donovan said the students were excited to be performing at the Opera House and showed a lot of potential in their music studies, with many of their families already booked for the show.
She said they were all practising madly as there was a lot to learn with lessons impacted by covid up until this year.
“The songs are sounding fantastic now and it’s great to have so many playing the recorder at the festival which has been running for over 30 years,” she said.
“The recorder is a great instrument to learn music on, it’s cheaper but you still have to learn how to read music and then can progress to another woodwind instrument like the flute.”
She said music often took a back seat to other subjects.
“Research shows, however, learning a musical instrument enhances all learning and helps a child’s brain to develop,” she said.
“This concert will allow you to see the recorder in all its glory, with the students’ finale ‘The High Road’ extra special.”
