AT least 15 patients die every day waiting for organs and every 10 minutes a new name is added to this waiting list.
The demand far outstrips the availability of organs and research shows that many families who decline organ donation regret that decision later.
With this in mind Old Guildford Public School’s Student Representative Council (SRC) organised their first fundraiser of the year on Friday, raising $370 and awareness for organ and tissue donation, with the the students choosing to raise money to support the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
“Students wore their favourite sporting jersey on the day to spread awareness and begin conversations about organ and tissue donation,” teacher Omar Shadid said.
Whether you’ve joined the Donor Registry or not, talking to your family about organ, tissue and eye donation provides them with the gift of knowing.
Talk to your family. Let them know your wishes and ask them about theirs.
