Jade hoping to shine as finalist

A NAME to look out for in the years to come, Newington’s Jade Park (pictured) is one of three junior finalists hoping to take out this year’s NSW Secondary Schools Concerto competition while performing with the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra (KPO).

A Dual Soloist with LMusA (Oboe) and LMusA-Distinction (Trumpet), Jade is on a full music scholarship at St Andrew’s Cathedral School.
Internationally recognised, she has entertained audiences at the Carnegie Hall in New York and Rome.
She says performing in the competition stands as an invaluable opportunity for musicians to perform as soloists accompanied by an orchestra.
“It has always been a dream of mine, since taking up the Trumpet and Oboe aged three,” she said.
“The richness of the harmonies, blending of tone qualities, and the swell of the fullness of the orchestra is other-worldly and a memory to treasure.”
For the competition, she will perform the Arutjunjan Trumpet Concerto, composed by Alexander Arutjunjan in 1950.
“Coloured by the mood following the end of WW2, this is an energetic and virtuosic piece that showcases characteristics of Gypsy, Russian and Armenian music; I hope to be able to transport the audience through time and space through this powerhouse of a piece,” she said.
The concert will be held at The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood, on Saturday, June 25, from 7pm.
Tickets: $15-$55 at kpo.org.au.
