Invite to get to know officers over coffee

AUBURN police have invited residents for a chat and a coffee to help break down barriers, build relations and discuss community issues.

Coffee with a Cop will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, August 9) at ’98 Caffe’ at Auburn Central, 2-4pm, and will be an ideal opportunity for the community to ask questions, learn more about the police work in the Auburn Command and meet new Superintendent Simon Glasser.
It follows a successful ‘Morning Tea with the Commander’ last month at Auburn Police Station where about 60 community leaders, religious leaders and representatives met with officers to get a better understanding of community policing and receive updated information about crime trends and efforts to combat those issues.
Supt Glasser said there’s no agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighbourhood.
The majority of contact officers have with the public generally happens during emergencies, or emotional situations, which are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street.
“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns or simply get to know our officers,” Supt Glasser said.
“These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”
