Invite students to apply for Youth Parliament program

THE next generation of youth leaders is invited to apply to participate in the Y NSW’s Youth Parliament program in 2024 with submissions now open.

The Y (formerly YMCA) Youth Parliament provides a unique platform for individuals to actively participate in the democratic process and advocate for issues they are passionate about.
Young people in Years 10, 11 and 12 (or equivalent age) in all 93 NSW state electorates are invited to express interest, with the 2023 Bankstown electorate member Kaitlin Wehbe urging young people to apply.
As a member on the Justice Committee, her group was successful in passing the protest rights bill and says taking part gave her confidence.
“My participation ensured my entry into UNSW to pursue a Bachelor of Law and Commerce, with an unconditional early offer,” she said.
“It has also been such a great addition to my resume, helping me secure a job as a production technician at a pharmaceutical company, as the program helps develop maturity that employers highly regard.
“I believe everyone needs to experience this program because it opens a new world of possibilities and opportunities for self-expression that can not be easily found in the real world.”
Y NSW Executive Director/Interim CEO Prue Warrilow said: “We believe in the power of inspired young people and Youth Parliament offers the opportunity for our youth to learn about the parliamentary system, develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, and engage in constructive debates about issues that matter to them and their communities.”
Application close February 9 and available at
