Participants are encouraged to wear their favourite hat and sip tea while intoning absurd or humorous verse or songs for the audience’s enjoyment, with free entry and prizes awarded for the Best Hat and Best Original Verse or Lyric.
Kicking off the monthly events’ new running time over spring and summer on the fourth Monday of the month, 7-9pm, the Open Mic session will be held this Monday, August 28, at APW’s ‘clubhouse’, WestWords Centre for Writing, 41 Hunter Street, Parramatta.
Welcoming all forms of poetry and music, APW is inviting guest poets and musicians to headline their Open Mic events over the next three months, with Melbourne poet legend Peter Bakowski performing in November.
APW Co-Ordinator, Danny Gardner, said establishing the Open Mic sessions “has been a hard slog in the winter months”. “The group wants to infuse new energy for the warmer seasons,” he said.
“We want to establish a lively, vibrant event to join the regular summer poetry and music scene in Sydney so all budding performers, musicians and poets or entertainment lovers are invited to come along.”
