Invite all to pull weight, raise awareness by registering for annual Tug O’ War Cup

BUSINESSES, schools, services and residents are being called on help to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Canterbury Bankstown’s annual Tug O’ War Cup will return on Wednesday, November 22, at John Mackay Indoor Sports Centre, and the council is calling on the community to get involved and register a team.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said this year’s event followed another harrowing year which saw the deaths of a number of women.
“This event is symbolic and calls on the community to get involved and take a stand against domestic violence,” he said.
“I will be picking up the rope and pulling my weight, and I hope everyone in our City does the same when it comes to standing against domestic violence.
“It’s a fun afternoon with a serious message – that this community says ‘no’ to domestic violence and ‘yes’ to healthy relationships.”
He said the council held the Tug O’ War Cup every year to bring about change and awareness to this type of behaviour.
This year’s competition will feature stalls, activities and a barbecue for all attendees, while the Canterbury Bankstown Domestic Violence Liaison Committee will also be there on the day.
