Described as the next level up from the popular Barefoot Bowls and the friendliest sport on offer, Bowls Club President Geoff Went said that while bowls concentrated on only two elements – line and length, it was way more difficult than most people thought.
Players new to bowls will be instructed during the game and players of other sports who have incurred an injury or are past their prime, can enjoy the new challenge, competitiveness and camaraderie on offer.
“It’s a great relax after a hectic week and lots of fun,” Geoff said.
“One of the new bowlers said it was a lot harder than they thought but after winning a prize and getting back his money for the game, he said he was impressed it was such a cheap sport, especially as the club provided him and his friends with a set of bowls.
“We welcome new players and have had our balcony filled with spectators looking at the games in progress plus there’s great new caterers at the club.”
Twilight bowls is on each Friday night from October 11 until Christmas and will resume in the New Year.
To take part on any Friday evening, call between 4 and 4.30pm on 8707 6995 or simply walk into the club before 4.30pm.
Cards are called at 4.45pm and players are on the green by 5pm, finishing after 16 ends or 7pm, whichever occurs first, with randomly drawn prizes awarded.
After Twilight, bowlers are encouraged to support the Bill Bullard Charity with 10 meat trays raffled each week.
