A charity organisation, Little Wings transports seriously ill children from the county via and ground to the Westmead Children’s Hospital and John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
Event MC Erin Molan said: “It’s one of the most humbling and incredible experiences learning about what this charity does, the amount of volunteers, the amount of work, just how noble it is, given that it has no government funding; this is why we all need to do as much as we can to raise awareness and funds.”
Little Wings first female volunteer pilot Leanne Ng reflected on her early experience at a small aviation school seven years ago when male pilots didn’t want to fly with her just because she was female.
No pilot stood up for her and ‘broke the bias’ as they were all too afraid to speak up. Times are changing, however, and Leanne said more realised that for a woman to pursue a line of work, they need the support of colleagues as well as a support person at home.
Thanking event attendees and sponsors Bankstown Sport and Bankstown Airport for the event’s fantastic success and their ongoing support, organisers also revealed that in a huge win for Little Wings, ClubNSW had agreed to sponsor 100 transport missions for the next three years.
