Made available through the Sydney Catholic Schools Amadeus Music Education Program, a college spokesperson said research showed that the benefits for students who learn an instrument went well beyond the realms of music education.
“Music promotes wellbeing, boosts brain power, improves language skills, memory and coordination,” she said.
“There is also a significant link between mathematical expertise and the skills developed when learning an instrument.”
A co-educational school, Holy Spirit Catholic College builds on the work of the Sisters of Saint Joseph and the De la Salle Brothers, who first offered a Catholic education to families in the local area over 50 years ago.
“Our students know they have a relationship with a God who loves them, and understand the call to work tirelessly to transform their world and to make it a more just place for all,” the spokesperson said.
In 2020, the College was accredited by Sydney Catholic Schools to allow students to take part in the Newman Selective Gifted Education Program for academically gifted or highly capable students to challenge and deepen their learning.
“We pride ourselves on providing a rich and truly comprehensive education for every student enrolled at the College,” the spokesperson said.
“No matter a student’s academic strengths and areas of interest, a Holy Spirit education opens doors, allowing students to pursue further study, commence trades and traineeships, or to follow their dreams in the creative and performing arts or on the sporting field.”
