Co-written with Playscript’s Geoffrey Sykes, ‘Out of Africa’ is a celebration of a woman’s journey from a Zimbabwe village to Australia’s Top End and on to suburban Sydney.
In an exciting collage of traditional African and modern Australian song, dance, storytelling, rap, legend, comedy and more, Tarisai’s inspiring migrant story will entrance audiences.
“Every migrant has their own experience to share and will certainly be able to relate to my story,” she said.
“I remember arriving at Sydney Airport as a 14-year-old and saying to my mother, ‘I can hear the koalas’, but they were actually black crows chattering away,” she said.
“It’s also the little things such as the taste of food which stays in my mind.”
“I hope to inspire others and help them adjust to having a new identity while still finding yourself; it can be a little challenging.
“There are lots of light, funny moments too so have no doubt the audience will find ‘Out of Africa’ very entertaining.”
Other performers featuring include dancer Emilia Nwakpa, rapper poet Samuel Barrie and musicians Kenneth Tusubira and Jonathan Chaga.
Catch the show on October 14, 21, 22 and 29 from 8pm, with a 4pm matinee on October 22. Tickets, $25-$38. Bookings: seymourcentre.com or 9061 5344.
