Kristina Roberts was presented with the Healing Hearts Award and Srijan Gurung with the New to Practice Nurse/Midwife of the Year Award, at the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) Nursing and Midwifery Awards.
The awards were the culmination of an exciting week, with International Day of the Midwife on May 5 and International Nurses Day on May 12.
Sunita was recognised for the empathy and kindness she shows patients and their families, “going above and beyond to spend time to compassionately address their needs and questions”, while Srijan, who started at Auburn as an assistant in nursing, quickly became a committed and invaluable team member with his mantra “care for patients as you would your loved ones”.
Kristina is known by her peers across all hospital disciplines for her leadership, support and mentorship, and as After Hours Manager, her positivity has inspired colleagues to mirror this attitude in their treatment of each other and patients.
WSLHD’s Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Maria Lingam, said the theme for International Nurses Day was ‘Our Nurses. Our Future’, which “highlighted learning from lessons and establishing actions that ensure nurses are respected and valued”.
“This also reflects our strong commitment to emerging clinicians and how we nurture them to drive excellence in clinical practice and patient centred care,” Ms Lingam said.
