Improve physical, mental health at free seniors Laughter Yoga session

DID you know that laughter is an aerobic exercise workout that keeps the lungs and heart healthy?

Laughter Yoga is a movement and breathing exercise that aims to cultivate joy, bring out your inner child and help you let go of the stresses in your daily life.
It’s ideal for seniors who need to exercise regularly, but often have conditions that restrict them from doing so.
Laughter Yoga’s Merv Neal said that as well as the aerobic exercise benefit, we needed to laugh daily to lift our mood and positivity.
He said a LaTrobe University research study showed that laughter also reduced depression and anxiety, helped lower blood pressure and enhanced social activity.
“With more elderly people choosing, or having, to live at home, and often by themselves, there is a growing concern with isolation and loneliness,” he said.
“Laughter is a safe and gentle exercise program that anyone can do anytime and anywhere.
“As the American comedian Michael Pritchard said, ‘you don’t stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing’.”
If you’re keen to give it a go, why not come along to a free Laughter Yoga session at Chester Hill Library and Knowledge Centre this Friday, March 8, 12-2pm, and experience first hand the connections and many health benefits a laughter session has to offer.
