Cyclist, pedestrian hit on same day with cars not stopping
A HUNT is underway for two drivers involved in separate hit and run accidents at South Granville and Auburn last Monday, February 24.
At 4.50am, a 64-year-old cyclist was knocked to the ground on Wellington Road at South Granville when a car struck him from behind, pushing him into a truck in front.
Police say while the truck driver stopped to check on the man, the car continued without stopping.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital.
In a separate incident at 11pm on the same day, a 73-year-old woman suffered leg injuries when she was hit by a car as she was walking along Mary Street in Auburn.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with initial inquiries indicating that the driver of the car involved didn’t stop to help the injured woman.
She was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition, and a resident in Mary Street who joined neighbours to help the woman until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, but did not want to be identified, told the Review it was a shocking incident.
“We heard the bang and screaming and immediately went outside,” he said.
“It was very scary.”
He added that drivers regularly speed down the street which is supposed be a 50km/h zone.
“It’s a straight run from one end to the other and it’s a real concern for residents.
“It’s unsafe and the council should put in speed bumps to slow down drivers.
“They need to put in a speed camera or a mobile speed camera.”
Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV vision of either incident, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
