TWO people have been charged with the murder of man in Canterbury last July while a gunman who shot a man in a hail of bullets in nearby Campsie two months later, remains on the run. POLICE have appealed for help to find the gunman who fired up to 12 shots from two guns at a 27-year-old in Campsie last year.
The man suffered two gunshot wounds to his head and chest during the attack in a carpark on Canterbury Road in Campsie about 9.20pm on Tuesday, September 12, but has since made a full recovery.
Police were told the man had been in his vehicle in the carpark when he was approached by an unknown man, who fired up to 12 times before fleeing the scene in a white Mercedes.
A short time later, police were called to a car fire in Kingsgrove where they found the Mercedes had crashed into a house before catching alight.
Shortly after, police located a black Mazda CX-5 alight in Birrong and a blue BMW sedan alight in Berala.
The following day another car, believed to be another getaway vehicle, was found burnt out in Agnes Banks and seven days later, another car was found burnt out in West Pennant Hills.
Investigations under Strike Force Faux, established all five burnt out cars were used as getaway cars in the shooting and the subsequent burning out of the vehicles, was by up to seven people.
The shooter was described as being of African appearance, over 200cm tall and wearing all black with a face covering.
Two months earlier, 28-year-old Ferenc ‘David’ Stemler was allegedly fatally shot in Canterbury. A woman and man arrested last week have been charged with murder.
