About 6.50pm on Thursday, December 29, the woman was jogging along Railway Parade when a man grabbed her from behind and assaulted her.
The woman was pushed to the ground but fought off the man who ran to Lidcombe station and boarded a train to Blacktown.
Auburn Acting Superintendent Jeffrey Walsh said it was a vicious attack and the woman was very lucky she didn’t receive serious physical injuries.
“We are continuing to patrol the area to make sure these things – as best we can – don’t happen again,” he said.
Supt Walsh has appealed for witnesses, dash cam and cctv footage, saying “the smallest bit of information could be the key point that identifies this person”.
The man is described as being of Asian appearance, approximately 20-25 years old, about 170cm tall, of thin build, with black shoulder length hair. He was wearing a dark coloured t-shirt, dark coloured track pants with white stripe and white shoes
Anyone who may be able to identify the man or witnessed the incident is urged to contact Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
