More than 170 volunteers of all ages turned out for Canterbury Bankstown Council’s National Tree Day celebration on Sunday, July 31, to plant 90 trees, 248 shrubs and 929 ground covers.
Across Australia more than 26 million trees have been planted since the first National Tree Day in 1996.
Mayor Bilal El-Hayek thanked all the participants for giving up their time for an important cause.
“Planting trees is vital in promoting a cleaner environment and increasing habitat for local wildlife,” he said.
“A great initiative and we are thrilled to be a small branch in a forest breathing life into the community.”
Hundreds sowing seeds of greener future
