How to take steps to help defeat a killer

YOU can take steps this month to save lives by setting a walking or running goal and offering up your sponsorship support to the Cancer Council to help those suffering and others to find a cure.

The March Charge is the virtual, month-long, fun fitness challenge anyone can do that has an enormous impact on how cancer is treated and researched.
Choose a distance for your Charge, go by yourself or as a team, get fit and raise vital funds at the same time.
Padstow father of five, Wayne Trattles, saw The March Charge on social media and thought it would be a great opportunity to improve his health as well as make a difference to others.
“I’ve never had cancer and have no direct family members that have either and I thank my lucky stars,” he said.
“Rather than wait until someone close is affected, I thought I would try to help now when I am able to.”
Wayne says it is already turning out to be a good motivator to get out of the house.
“I’ve got my colleagues on board as sponsors and I really like the idea that money raised doesn’t just go to research but helps with the latest treatments for the sick.”
Popular staffer at Padstow RSL, Kristen Grant, feels the same.
“My father died of esophageal cancer in 2020, my grandfather died of lung cancer in 2011 and my uncle died recently of kidney/liver cancer,” she said.
“Cancer is just so deadly and cruel so as well as running 300 to 400km in March, I am wearing a yellow ribbon day in, day out to get people talking and raise awareness.”
The first 200 Chargers to raise $500 will receive a free March T-shirt or an exclusive, personalised, Diamond Club Tee when you reach $1,000.
