How to make a positive difference to others’ lives as well as your own

RESIDENTS living in local aged care homes are still receiving the popular knitted rugs but Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre (CHNC) volunteers are now going a step further to ease the isolation of the elderly.

Known as Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) volunteers, they have been ‘Zooming’ into aged care homes and having a chat with individuals as well as writing letters and making regular phone calls.
There have been many success stories which have helped brighten up the residents’ lives.
Using Zoom calls, CVS volunteer Jean has formed a welcome friendship with resident Carol from Weeroona Aged Care Plus, Bass Hill.
“My experience with Carol on Zoom has been great,” Jean said.
“Carol’s bubbly nature shines through and we are both relaxed and talk about many topics. I am looking forward to future Zoom calls with Carol.”
Jean said that volunteering as a Community Visitor was a rewarding experience as you could make a positive difference to the residents’ lives as well as your own.
