How anyone can have ball by ‘walking’

IT lacks the fast pace of indoor soccer but ‘walking football’ might be the way to satisfy a competitive itch for people seeking a low-impact, non-contact alternative to traditional sports.

Granville and Districts Soccer Football Association (GDSFA) in partnership with Football NSW and City of Parramatta, are excited to launch their Walking Football program and provide the opportunity for residents to try it out.
A nationwide initiative that uses a small sided and sustainable version of football, Walking Football has been specifically modified for older Australians, to offer a program designed to suit participants of all abilities and fitness levels.
GDSFA General Manager Scott Sadler says Walking Football focuses on low impact, team based exercise and provides the physical and mental health benefits associated with team sports, alongside the benefits of ongoing physical activity.
“People won’t need to organise a team, they can just show up on the day and play,” he said.
“It offers both male and female players a chance to continue playing or to take part in football for the first time, and interest in the program is growing day by day.
“If you have a grandparent or anyone you think this would be great for, please encourage them to come down.”
It’s free and on offer every Wednesday from April 21-June 9, 10-11am, at Dundas Park in Yates Avenue, Dundas Valley.
