It was the second in as many days, with a house fire in Chester Hill quickly extinguished the following day.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received numerous calls about 8.30pm and when firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames billowing from a single level unit, flanked either side by two-storey apartments.
Several residents were evacuated from the adjacent units and the apartment was severely damaged by the fire.
At Chester Hill, firefighters arrived at the Bambridge Street house about 2.30pm to find flames issuing from the rear of the property. They quickly extinguished the blaze and ventilated the premises. One person self-evacuated.
FRNSW Superintendent Scott Dodson says they are timely reminders that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
“The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact police, fire or ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations,” he said.
