Hosting Dinner of Unity to help church upgrade

SAINT Nicholas Bankstown has been an important home and a treasured place of fellowship for thousands of parishioners of orthodox, slavic backgrounds for many years.

Now 60-years-old, the church is in desperate need of an upgrade to modernise and cater for the booming congregation who have dug deep to get renovations underway.
Under the guidance of parish priest Father Mitko Machevski, the church is hosting a ‘Dinner of Unity’ fundraising event on Saturday, July 31, at the Emporium function centre in Bankstown to help reach their financial target.
After recently receiving a $1,000 boost from the council to help with staging the event, organisers say it will be a wonderful night for those of Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Belarusian and Macedonian backgrounds.
“There will be a glimpse through history and a range of entertainment including Macedonian music and a performance by the Serbian choir,” a spokesperson said.
“The $80 a head ticket includes a three-course meal and we are also planning to hold an auction and lottery to raise as much as we can to complete our renovation works.”
