President Alan Chapple says that following a dawn service at 5am at Memorial Park near Auburn Station, attendees are invited to a breakfast at Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club.
“We haven’t limited the numbers but you will have to be signed in and social distancing protocols will apply,” Mr Chapple said.
“All of our members are thrilled that ANZAC Day is back and we can all get together in a fair dinkum way and remember those who lived and died for our country.
“We’re expecting about 300 members to attend but probably won’t know until the day but everyone I’ve spoken to is very happy and looking forward to it.”
Merrylands RSL Sub-branch President Rob Grimley says they have had to limit numbers to 100 because of the size of Charles Mance Reserve where they traditionally hold the dawn service in front of the memorial.
“This will be by invitation only; if you’re not registered, you will not be allowed in,” he said.
“The service will be followed by a breakfast at the club consisting of a bacon and egg roll and then some of us may go into the city to march.”
Mr Grimley said that in previous years, there would be 2,000 to 3,000 people at the service spilling out onto the street but that is not being permitted this year.
“It’s still a whole lot better than last year though and maybe next year, we will be able to be even more relaxed about it and the numbers in attendance,” he said.
