Honour Pearl Harbor victims

A SMALL crowd, including US Consulate General Sydney, Sharon Hudson-Dean (pictured), gathered at the cenotaph in Court House Reserve in Bankstown, to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

As it has done for many years, Bankstown City Council together with the Bankstown RSL Sub Branch and Yanks Down Under Post No 1, conducted the service.
More than 3,000 American servicemen and civilians were killed or wounded in the attacks on December 7, 1941. From 1942 to 1944, Bankstown Airport was the base for members of the 35th and 49th Pursuit Groups of the United States Army Air Force.
State MP for East Hills, Wendy Lindsay, said the service was well attended by many local RSL Club Sub-branch members and President Terry Corcoran from Bankstown RSL Sub-Branch and his team did an amazing job running the service.
Bankstown RSL chairman Bruce Pawley said everyone involved in organising the event and those who attended, should be congratulated.
