“The competition will run on Fridays from 6pm, from September to March, and there is free coaching on offer on Mondays and Wednesdays,” Holroyd LAC secretary Aino Matwisyk said.
“Everyone’s looking forward to it and can’t wait for the children to get back to their sport; it’s been a long winter.”
Last season there were nine LANSW State Championship qualifiers – up from seven the season before.
In a further sign Holroyd LAC is developing champions of the future, Under 10 competitor Fresceni Abaddi received the Outstanding Clubmanship Award and was named Junior Athlete of the Year.
Fresceni also received the Coaches Award and improved his State representative qualifying times in four events and as well was presented with the Spirit of Athletics Achievement Award.
Aino said Little Athletics was the ideal sport to keep children fit during summer.
“Holroyd LAC is a wonderful, family-friendly club and you don’t have to be 100 per cent committed,” she said.
“It’s good to keep children engaged in exercise and it’s also an opportunity for them to make friends; the other point is that if they’re doing Little Athletics, just like with swimming, they’ve got more chance of doing well in school-based sport.”
