Hit, run driver jailed over elderly man’s death

IT took three attempts but 51-year-old Georges Yousseff Geagea was sentenced on Wednesday for a 2016 fatal hit and run which took the life of 73-year-old Condell Park grandfather Zacharias Andreou.

After striking Mr Andreou as he opened the door of his ute on December 28, Mr Geagea drove off without stopping, prompting a police hunt. He was arrested a week later at his Greenacre home after he tried to sell the damaged van to a wreckers.
Convicted of dangerous driving causing death and failure to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, Mr Geagea was sentenced to six years and six months in prison, with a non-parole period of four years and two months.
