IN an early Christmas present for motorists, the first stage of a much-needed $100 million upgrade to Henry Lawson Drive will soon get underway.
State MP for East Hills, Wendy Lindsay said the community would have a chance to have their say on the promised project next year from February 17 to March 7.
Describing it as a “vital project” which will deliver benefits including improved travel times, reliability and safety for all road users, Ms Lindsay said it was great to see it progressing.
“The first stage involves widening Henry Lawson Drive from two lanes to four lanes, for 2.2 kilometres between the M5 Motorway and Milperra Road, including intersection upgrades and bridge work,” she said.
“The bridge near Auld Avenue, will also be duplicated as part of the project, along with intersection upgrades at Milperra, Newbridge and Tower roads.
“This section of Henry Lawson Drive has been prioritised in line with traffic and safety data, including around Bankstown Airport and local industrial and residential areas.”
She says the community can also expect to see road workers in the area between February 2 and May 1 to carry out essential maintenance, with the work being done at night between 8pm and 5am to minimise the impact on road users.
“The work will help provide a smoother road surface, increase safety and provide more consistent driving conditions around the intersection of Henry Lawson Drive and Newbridge Road,” Ms Lindsay said.
