The day involved a range of exciting activities for locals to get involved in, including lucky dips, raffles, cupcakes, and a popcorn machine, with all proceeds being donated to Assistance Dogs Australia; a not-for-profit organisation that connects people experiencing disability, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Autism, with a specially trained four-legged friend.
Menai’s fundraiser was part of a wider Discount Drug Stores initiative, ‘Dogtober’, where stores across Australia engage in fundraising activities throughout the month of October to raise funds for Assistance Dogs Australia – an event which has seen Discount Drug Stores collectively raise $300,000plus for the organisation over the past 12 years.
Menai Discount Drug Store Manager, Gabby Mashman, said: “We love getting involved in fundraising activities each year to support our long-term partner, Assistance Dogs Australia.”
“The fundraiser is received really well by our community who get behind all of the activities to help raise awareness and funds for this important organisation,” Gabby said.
“We’ve now hosted a Dogtober fundraising event for Assistance Dogs Australia at our Menai store for five years running, with this year’s event particularly special as locals come out of lockdown.”
As part of the day’s festivities, one of the of the Assistance Dogs in-training made an appearance with Assistance Dogs Australia’s Top Dog, Richard Lord, for a meet-and-greet with the customers.
Mr Lord, said: “We’re really grateful to have a partner in Discount Drug Stores, who each year for Dogtober, go above and beyond in their efforts to raise funds so that we can support those experiencing disability with a fully accredited assistance dog”.
