Led by teachers John Watson and Walid El Chiekh, the boys had to compete with their own ‘warehouse’ robot in a rigorous points and time challenge and also took out second, third and fifth place in the Australian High Schools Division.
Mr Watson said they certainly had what it took to compete on the international stage but being a disadvantaged school, needed help to get there.
“Their remarkable achievement in December, has earned them the privilege of representing our school and country at the international competition in Japan but the estimated cost to send and accommodate seven students and two teachers, amounts to $30,000,” he said.
As such, the school has been madly fundraising all year and invites the community to an exciting event this Friday night, August 2, from 7.30pm at Panania Diggers Club.
There will be 20 halal-certified meat trays to win, worth $50 each, with tickets on sale from 6.30pm.
“All proceeds from ticket sales will directly support our robotics teams’ participation in the international competition in Japan,” Mr Watson said.
“Please come along, buy a ticket or make a donation to help our boys put Bankstown and Australia on the map.”
If you can’t make the event but would like to donate, email john.watson28@det.nsw.edu.au or call the school on 9773 7806.
