Help to tackle ‘elder abuse’

SOMETIMES older people are not treated with the respect that they deserve to help empower and inform themselves of their rights.

The Inner West Elder Abuse Collaborative will host a free event on Tuesday, June 12, at 8-10 Victoria Street, Newtown, for older women and their friends
The morning will feature short videos, panel discussion sand audience questions around ageing and some of the vulnerabilities that older people face.
These include the murky fields of financial and psychological elder abuse which often happens among family members.
Maybe you are worried about how your mum and dad, an elderly neighbour or even yourself are being treated.
Come and get some information provided at the service provider stalls, view the video clips and participate in the discussion with an expert panel that includes a lawyer from Seniors Rights Service, police, the SHD Aged Care Response team, Older Women’s Network and a Financial Information Services Officer.
As a treat there is a coffee cart, free lunch and hand massages as well.
RSVP for catering to eventbrite.com.au or call Yumi on 9519 8044.
Transport can also be arranged, call Leanne on 9392 5187.
