Some of its offerings include a Girls program every Thursday, 3-5pm, with a range of activities including t-shirt making, cooking (and eating), guest healthcare speakers, karaoke or just to have a chat with peers.
The Day program is on Tuesdays, 11am-2pm, and is an opportunity for youth to enjoy a hot meal, have a shower, wash their clothes and get assistance with resume writing and applying for jobs or whatever other supports they need.
There is also a Homework Help program, a young mothers group, a community food program where MYC distributes hampers to local families, a Links to Learning program for young people at risk of dropping out of school, a Drop-in program on Tuesdays and a Late Drop-in on Thursday nights.
MYC’s Seini Kolomalu says there are so many success stories which makes the service so worthwhile and vital in the community.
“Watching young people succeed in their goals, maturing and moving on is really wonderful to see,” she said.
“We want to keep reminding other young people if they need any kind of support, get some ideas or just to have a chat, MYC is the place to come.”
