Help cheer on Matildas ahead of park upgrade All invited to park to enjoy Matilda opener

A NEW masterplan for Jensen Park will ensure many of those watching the kick-off of the FIFA Women’s World Cup from the Regents Park ground, will have access to world class facilities for many years to come.

The Bankstown City Lions, who will host the Live Site screening at Jensen Park tomorrow (Thursday) night of the Matildas’ opening match against Ireland, have welcomed a Canterbury Bankstown Council decision to prepare a concept plan and layout of a new amenities building and update the park’s 2014 masterplan.
Cr Chris Cahill said it was timely to undertake a review and redevelopment of the masterplan to ensure the future priorities for this important community asset.
Some of the improvements would include upgraded and modernised lighting, clubhouse facilities, change rooms, car parking and further improvements to grandstands.
“It will take Jensen Park to the next level and make it the true home of soccer in the Bankstown region – home of similar quality and facilities as cricket enjoys at Memorial Oval or rugby league has at Belmore,” he said.
Bankstown City Lions Vice President Goce Mitrevski said the improvements over the years had gone a fair way in encouraging and promoting female football, but there was more that needed to be done.
“The council’s commitment to updating the masterplan will ensure that the current players and also the next generation of Matildas, will have access to world class facilities enjoyed by other sports,” he said.
“We’re really excited to be working with the council to give this and the next generation every opportunity to succeed in football.”
Goce also invited everyone to the Live Site screening at Jensen Park on Thursday night for the Matildas opening match.
“We’re expecting a crowd of over 500 and we want everyone coming to wear their jerseys and cheer on the Matildas,” he said.
Gates open at 6pm with the match from 8pm. Don’t forget to pack your picnic blankets, chairs and snacks, but there will also be refreshments available on the night.
