Help a child break ‘cycle of poverty’

HELPING ease the financial pressures that a new school year can put on parents doing it tough, the Officeworks Back to School Appeal has won plenty of support from the community.

Customers are invited to buy a $2, $5, $10 or $20 donation card with the money going to the Smith Family to help families afford the cost of their child’s essential school supplies, as well as providing personal support and extra educational programs to help them stay motivated and connected to their learning.
Punchbowl Officeworks manager Imran Hossain said it was amazing that a community going through so much continued to step up for others.
“It’s encouraging to see so many donate,” he said.
“No matter how small or big the donation, it will help change someone’s life.”
Smith Family CEO Doug Taylor says one in six Australian children and young people are growing up living in poverty and unfortunately, the Covid crisis has only compounded the challenges and hardships facing those in need, including access to education essentials.
He said the funds would help “provide targeted educational support – a key way to help children in need to break the cycle of poverty”.
To support the appeal, make a donation in store or online at officeworks.com.au until February 6.
