Helicopter pilot, student escape crash

A pilot and instructor had a lucky escape this afternoon when the helicopter they were training in crashed to the ground at Bankstown Airport today about 2pm.

The propeller and part of the fuselage sustained significant damage as the chopper came to rest on its side.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) deployed 10 firefighters and three fire trucks to the scene.
Both occupants were not injured and walked from the wreckage.
They were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
Fire crews, trained in hazardous materials response, cleared a minor fuel spill.
They also suppressed fibres from the wreckage, which posed a potential health risk.
NSW Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash
