Hawks frustrate prey with draw but should have won

Happy Hawks after scoring their 2-0 halftime lead.

IN a thrilling encounter, NPL 3 Round 8 saw Stanmore Hawks host Camden Tigers.

Stanmore looked slick from the outset playing through and around the Camden defence with precision.
It didn’t take long for Stanmore to score when a wicked Peter Yannopoulos cross found marksmen Jovan Blagojevic who headed home.
Yannopoulos was causing major headaches with his speed and when knocked down in the penalty box, Blagojevic calmly converted for a 2-0 half-time lead.
Early in the second half, Yannopoulos gave Stanmore what should have been an unassailable 3-0 lead after great lead up work from Tim Woelfiel, Blagojevic and Vic Koutsoufis.
With Stanmore seemingly cruising, a mistake at the back saw Camden peg one back. The Camden keeper then started punting long balls into the Stanmore half and Camden managed two more scrappy goals to tie the game up – a 3-3 draw in a game Stanmore will feel they should have won comfortably.
Stanmore will now concentrate on their midweek FFA cup game against NPL1 powerhouse Sydney Olympic.
