Have say on renaming sports field at Mona Park in honour of cricket great

A PROPOSAL to rename a sports field in Mona Park in honour of life-long Cumberland resident and local cricket identity Michael Wood, is open for public comment.

Volunteering as Auburn Shire District Cricket club secretary for nearly 30 years, Mr Wood joined the club in 1988 and played grade cricket until 2000.
Encouraging anyone interested in the naming proposal to make a submission, Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou said Mr Wood was well-known in South Granville and across the sporting community.
“His history revolves around Mona Park and given his outstanding contribution to the community, on and off the field, we think naming sports field number 3 at Mona Park in his honour, would be a fitting tribute,” he said.
Located in the western part of Auburn adjacent to the Duck River, Mona Park has four separate sports fields and is a premier venue for cricket in the summer season with three natural turf wickets. During the winter season, Mona Park is also used for both AFL and soccer.
Submissions are open at haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au until Thursday, November 7, at 5pm.
