State MP for East Hills, Wendy Lindsay, said the stretch of road – between the Flower Power intersection and the M5 Motorway – is a key section of this vital arterial road and works will also include upgrades to intersections and improved shared path connections.
Henry Lawson Drive is a busy north-south connector, carrying around 38,000 vehicles a day during peak periods.
Minister for Metropolitan Roads, Natalie Ward, said the NSW Government announced a program to upgrade a 7.5 kilometre section of Henry Lawson Drive between the Hume Highway and the M5 Motorway, starting with a $100 million commitment to Stage 1A.
“Stage 1A of the project will double road capacity between Georges Hall and Milperra, including a major upgrade of the Henry Lawson Drive and Milperra and Newbridge Roads intersection,” Mrs Ward said.
“This will be the first major step in busting congestion and improving traffic flow along this busy corridor.
“We want to continue to move this project forward to be able to deliver benefits to commuters and residents in Sydney’s south-west as soon as possible.”
The community gave feedback on the Review of Environmental Factors for Stage 1A in September 2021 and the submissions report is expected to be released in May.
