Hamper, gifts collected for isolated aged

CHRISTMAS came a little early for several residents (pictured) who are part of the Seniors Care Register Program.

Paddy’s Market Flemington and Strathfield Council provided Auburn Police with almost 40 gift bags and hampers to give to the seniors, as a show of support for the program and as a Christmas gift. The bags and hampers contained fruit, vegetables, biscuits, nuts and hygiene products.
The Seniors Care Register Program encourages senior citizens who reside alone or with minimal family contact, to be placed on a register and contacted each week by a “Volunteer in Policing” to check on their welfare and to see if they require any support.
Seniors range in age, ability, disability, cultural background, are pensioners, and most are living alone.
At times, the volunteer or police contact may be the seniors only source of social engagement. Police have also visited them when they are feeling ill or have other concerns.
