Grand opening of ‘most stunning’ library in town

EVERYONE’S invited to the grand opening of the spectacular, new, state-of-the-art Marrickville Library on Saturday, August 31, for a day of exploration and activities.

The architecturally-designed Library and Pavilion will mark a new era in library service for the Inner West, and will offer a remarkable array of services and house 85,000 books in a beautiful structure that incorporates the heritage listed buildings of the old Marrickville Hospital with soaring new spaces.
“It’s an inspiring space – I can honestly say it will be one of most visually stunning libraries in Sydney,” Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said.
The grand opening day will start at 10am with a traditional smoking ceremony and feature roving performers, drop-in children’s workshops and walking tours for patrons to learn the history of the site and the features of the new space.
The “amazing” facility includes a new junior library and garden, a space dedicated to community languages, beautiful artworks, meeting spaces and private study rooms and over 1,200sqm of garden space.
