Cr Christou said he was shocked and in disbelief when he found out that Cumberland Council was not invited to “the hastily conferred sit down” which occurred with the neighbouring councils of Fairfield, Liverpool, and Campbelltown.
“Cumberland City Council has been vocal in regard to our concerns of repatriation of ISIS Brides and was the first Council in Australia to move a council resolution as a collective and express our concerns to the Federal Government on this very important issue,” he said.
“I have also made personal representations to the Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Claire O’Neil in regard to this matter.
“To be snubbed and ignored the way we were is nothing but a slap in the face to the 240,000 residents that reside in Cumberland.”
A vocal opponent to the repatriation of ISIS Brides, Cr Christou said the exclusion of Cumberland from the meeting “has only heightened community concerns that ISIS brides will be secretly dumped in Cumberland under the cover of darkness”.
