Golden point triumph seals deal

AS a reward for their efforts, a golden point field goal from Matt Burton handed the Bulldogs a 15-14 victory over the Sharks at Accor Stadium on Friday night.

Having missed two earlier field goals, Burton found his range in the 84th minute to give the Bulldogs bragging rights in the first ever golden point clash between the two sides.
The Bulldogs have now won their past six games at Accor Stadium and have climbed to fifth on the ladder.
They grabbed the first try from an unlikely source – a Viliame Kikau grubber – as the back-rower picked up a loose ball before pouncing for his first try since Round 3.
A Sharks error in the 12th minute, saw Reed Mahoney surge over from dummy half to give the blue and whites a perfect start at 12-0.
A poor pass from Toby Sexton cost the Bulldogs a third try, with the Sharks making it 12-6.
Having worked their way back to 12-10, the Sharks hit the lead in the 62nd minute.
With five minutes to play Bailey Hayward put in a grubber and a Shark was penalised for impeding his chase, with Burton knocking over the penalty goal to make it 14-14.
After going to golden point, the Bulldogs worked their way to the 30-metre line and Burton handed his team the victory with a sweetly struck drop kick.
Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo described Burton as brave.
“For Burto to stay present and kick that third field goal after missing two was just a sign of how talented he is and how hard he has worked on his game,” he said.
The Bulldogs host the Warriors at Accor Stadium this Saturday from 3pm.
