But you can help change this and save lives by signing up at Movember.com and growing your most important ‘Mo ever.
Bankstown Sports is also raising awareness and funds for Movember this month, with staffer Blake Worsfold named the club’s Movember Ambassador.
At 13, with a history of depression in his family, Blake was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder.
Bullied at school, he attempted suicide at 14 and self-harmed throughout high school.
Fast forward a few years, after countless hospital admissions, psychotic episodes, days off school and specialist treatment combined with different medications, Blake graduated from high school with the determination to go into the field of suicide prevention.
“I spent time with Lifeline and I’m studying a Bachelor of Psychological Science,” he said.
“My goal is to progress my career in Suicidology to ensure that nobody will have to go through the same experience as I did.
“The biggest thing is to find the strength to open up about your feelings.
“I am passionate about raising awareness for this very important cause.”
The club will also be featuring a Basement Brewhouse brew, called the Basement Brewstache, throughout November with all proceeds going to the Movember Foundation.
A smooth and full flavoured IPA hopped generously with Waimea and Galaxy, the Basement Brewstache delivers a big fresh hit of citrus, pine needles, stone fruit and passionfruit, ranging from $7 (Midi) and $12.50 (Pint) to $34 (Growler).
Goes bush and brews way to help men in ‘Movember’
MEN are three times more likely to die from suicide and more men die of prostate cancer than women do of breast cancer.
