Serving as Auburn Council’s Deputy General Manager for more than two-and-a-half years prior to the 2016 council amalgamations, Mr McNulty worked in the same role for Cumberland for about 18 months before being appointed Acting General Manager in November 2017 after the resignation of Malcolm Ryan.
Six months later he was named as General Manager.
Thanking him for his service, Mayor Steve Christou said he had learned a lot from Mr McNulty and “thoroughly enjoyed working with him”.
“I wish Hamish all the best with his health and future career aspirations,” he said.
“He has demonstrated great innovation and leadership and supported Cumberland City Council throughout the pandemic and managed the many challenges that it brought.”
The council’s Works and Infrastructure Director Peter Fitzgerald, who has been acting in Mr McNulty’s stead for the past two months, will remain in charge while recruitment for a new General Manager gets underway.
“I’m looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities the role of Acting General Manager will bring,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“The staff at Cumberland City Council have consistently demonstrated their dedication and their resilience and I will continue to work with them to deliver the best for our community.”
Cr Christou said Mr Fitzgerald was “a solid leader with a head for strategic decision making” and he looked forward to working with him “to continue the improvement of our local community”.
