With this mind and to celebrate Harmony Week, the Australia Korea Cultural Exchange Association (AKCEA) is inviting families to experience food from over a dozen cultures for free at St Joachim’s Catholic Church Parish Hall in Lidcombe this Sunday, March 27, 11am-2pm, as a way to strengthen cultural bonds.
AKCEA President Esther Kim (pictured) said the event would be a first for the area and was long overdue considering the majority of local residents came from non-English speaking backgrounds.
“Some of the dishes will represent the flavours and style of Korean, China, Japan, Australia, Ukraine, Italy, Burma, India, Sudan, Tonga, Filipino and Vietnam; it will be a huge feast of fun for everyone,” she said,
Encouraging, diners to come in cultural dress, though that’s not essential, Esther said the event would also include singing, dancing and a cultural dress parade.
“We have come through a frustrating time with covid and it’s time for us all to connect again and increase our understanding of others,” she said.
“We feel this is a great opportunity to help build a harmonious society; everyone is happy sitting down to a delicious meal and through this event, residents will get to sample some amazing cuisines.
“Children are also welcome.”
Lunch bookings essential for catering purposes by emailing info@akcea.org.au or call Esther on 0416 100 499.
