Girls ‘Play in Purple’ to fight killer

RAISING over $1,600 to help in the fight against pancreatic cancer, Bankstown Sports Stars FC girls teams (pictured) took part in a memorable ‘Play in Purple’ sports day last Sunday.

After two nights of heavy rain, event organiser Lana Majdoub said there was a risk the event would be cancelled.
However, thanks to the hard-working committee arriving at the clubhouse at 6am to soak up puddles and lay sand to prepare the fields, the event went ahead.
“With the clubhouse transformed with 200 purple balloons setting the stage for the festive atmosphere, purple donuts were distributed and the girls embraced the spirit of the day adorning purple face paint, socks and accessories,” Lana said.
“It was wonderful how the Bankstown Sports Stars FC community came together after Pankind, the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, reached out for support; as well as raising funds, we were very happy to pull on our purple socks to raise awareness that a healthy lifestyle, exercise and social connection can reduce the risk of cancer and it’s an event now we hope to do every year.”
