Girls bowl, catch way to cricket national selection

WELL on her way to making a career out of the game, Canterbury Girls High School Year 12 student Nell Bryson-Smith has won selection in the U18 NSW Metropolitan State team as a left-handed orthodox spinner.

Set to attend the Cricket Australia National Championships in Tasmania in January 2020, she will be part of the squad that has been training since July till final selections were made last week.
Playing since she was nine with Summer Hill Cricket Club, Nell just retired from the Girls competition after 109 games.
She debuted for Sydney Cricket Club in Women’s 1st Grade as a 15-year-old in 2017.
During her high school career, she formed Canterbury Girls cricket team and lead them to the semi finals of the knock-out competition last year.
Also during this time she has been a member of the Sydney East Girls cricket team and this year was selected in the CHS 2 team to compete at the Combined High Schools State Championships. From that performance, she was selected as a member of the CHS All School Girls Merit Team.
Former Bankstown Sports Women’s Cricket Club legend Alexandra Tims has been selected for the U18 Country Team as the wicket-keeper to attend the Cricket Australia National Championships in Tasmania in January 2020.
Alex has played since a young age in the mixed local comps. She debuted for Sydney Cricket Club in Women’s 1st Grade in 2016 behind the stumps.
A member of the Sydney East Girls cricket team, she was selected this year in the CHS 2 team as Captain to compete at the Combined High Schools State Championships.
Chair of Sydney Cricket Club Greg Healy (Alyssa’s Dad) said: “Congratulations to Nell and Alex on their selections.
“It’s a reward for all the hard work you have put into your game with the results starting to show in Premier cricket.”
