Mariam recorded a time of 27.64s in the 200m sprint at a school athletics carnival last week, breaking the record for the 15 years age group.
The previous record was held by Wendy Moulstone and was set in 1969, with a time of 27.70s.
This is the second time Mary has broken a school record, previously breaking the 13 years 100m sprint record in 2021 with a time of 12.89s.
Bankstown Girls High School Sports Coordinator Yasmine Baddah said Mary had trained hard and recently represented NSW at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Brisbane.
“After finishing third in the Women’s Under 16s 100m at the NSW Championships, with a PB of 12.54, Mary was 16th fastest in the country at the Nationals,” she said.
“We eagerly await what Mary can do next at Bankstown Girls High School.”
