Gifted hunting for old uniform in upcycle plan

GEORGES River Grammar (GRG) families might want to think twice before taking any old uniforms to the tip as they are now being sought for a Year 4 enrichment project to learn about sustainability.

As part of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) based project, the uniforms will be donated to an organisation, called Worn Up, to help reduce landfill by upcycling into items like school desks and acoustic tiles.
As a side project, students will also use some of these throwaway items to create a useful new product, using the Design Thinking Framework, for the classroom.
Part of the GRG Gifted Education Program, these projects help to enhance students’ knowledge and love of learning, with the courses created and run by the K-12 Gifted Education Facilitator, Louella Grech.
“It is wonderful to see our students embrace the challenge of sustainability in a meaningful way,” she said.
“They will soon build a prototype product, test it and make modifications before gifting the products to their own classes.”
